PERU AND THE TRIP TO THE AMAZON – 16 DAYS


A trip to Peru will be a memorable experience, learning the beauty of the nature and culture of people who were conquered by Spaniards. You will visit beautiful, colonial historical monuments like Sistine Chapel.

Peru means majestic Cordillera and the kingdom of condors. High altitude metropolises, legendary “gold of Peru” and the “city of Kings” – Lima. You will visit impressive remains of Incas Empire – Cusco, ruins of Incas civilization on the way to Titicaca Lake, the highest altitude lake in the world, which you can sail. You will discover Machu Pichu – one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, hidden from modernity in hardly accessible mountains ravishing with its stonework and a symbolism of the structure. Amateurs of architecture will find here many historical monuments from the Colonial era. Ethnographers will be amazed with the local folklore. You will learn about Pisco Cour, Vikunia, Alpaca or Lama.

This trip is for people who love nature and would like to be in one of the most beautiful places on the Earth, in the wilderness of the Amazon forest, which makes a half of equatorial rainforests on the Earth. You will have a chance to try rafting on the 7 000 km long river and reach an exotic heaven on the earth. You will find yourself between huge parrots, colorful toucans, amusing monkeys and dangerous crocodiles. You will visit the biggest, legendary lake of South America – Titicaca, you will be amazed by mysterious lines at the Nazca plateau, and one of the driest places in the world (designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Your trip will be enriched with learning about Uru Indians’ life, visiting Indian market, villages of Peruvian mountaineers and see herds of llamas. These are just few of the trip attractions.

DAY 1: Lima 14.09.2010
Our guide will welcome you at the Lima airport. Transfer to the hotel, dinner and repose after the trip.

DAY 2: Three faces of Lima 15.09.2010
After breakfast we will visit the grave of Saint Rose of Lima, the patroness of native Indian people of the Americas and their beneficence. We will visit the colonial part of the city, a Cathedral, Marquis Chapel, an abode of the conqueror and now governor of Peru and founder of Lima – Don Francis Pizarra. We will take you to Plaza de Armas with the torso of Ernest Malinowski – a national hero of Peru. We will visit catacombs and then drive to the Park of Love, where we have a photo session with the Pacific in the background.

DAY 3: “Small Galapagos” and a “Desert Storm”   16.09.2010
We will drive to Paracas in the early morning. We will have a motorboat cruise to Ballestas Islands, where colonies of sea lions and exotic birds can be found (cormorants, Humboldta penguins, pelicans and flamingos). Afterwards we will drive to a small village at the entrance of a huge plateau, Nazca. We will have a break for a dinner and a surprise organized by the guide “Desert Strom”. After reaching Nazca, we will check in at the hotel, where we stay overnight.

DAY 4: Nazca - „mysterious world of lines and mummies”     17.09.2010
Breakfast. Some time for admiring mysterious lines carved on the huge surface of the stone desert, series of ancient geoglyphs providing an interesting research material to archeologists. Optionally you can take a light aircraft flight over the plateau. It is the only way to see the unique shape of lines ($70.00 USD per person). We will see aqueducts built by Nazcas and used until today by local people. Afterwards we will drive to Desierto, it is where one of the oldest Nazca mummy cemeteries were found in 80’s. We will come back to Nazca, visit a small archeological site, where we will learn about the way the Nazca lines were made. Transfer to the hotel, dinner and accommodation.

DAY 5: Nazca – Arequipa "the secret of the white city”   18.09.2010
Breakfast. We will drive to Arequipa, the white city, surrounded by Volcanic Cordillera, at the bottom of the El Misti volcano – 5822 m. The old town of Arequipa was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. It is called the White City because of the white volcanic tuff used for building. 80 volcanoes around the place provide the city with the material in abundance. Afterwards we will check in the hotel and have a dinner.

DAY 6: Arequipa – Puno    19.09.2010
After breakfast we will visit the second biggest city in Peru – Arequipa, located at an altitude of 2328 m. in Cordillera. In the centre of the city we will find beautiful temples, Catholic Monasteries and colonial style buildings. We will visit the Monastery of Monastery of Santa Catalina and have some free time to enjoy the city. Next we will drive to south – east part of the country to the Collao plateau at the lake Tititaca – a birthplace of the one of the most important cultures of pre – Inca era – Puno. We will have some time to take photos of picturesque landscapes. We will stay overnight at the hotel in Puno.

DAY 7: Uros and Taquile 20.09.2010
After breakfast we will take you to the Tititaca Lake. We will spend the day on islands: Uros and Isla de Taquile getting to know Indians, who cultivate the culture of Incas until today. You will take part in a show of traditional ceremonies of Incas. We will have a dinner at the Uros Island and come back to our hotel in Puno.

DAY 8: The Capital of the Inca Empire  21.09.2010
Breakfast. Transfer to Cusco. We will visit the archeological zone Sillustani located at an altitude of 4000m. at the lake Umayo. On the way we will find interesting remains of lost civilization: Inca chimney shape ruins called Chulpas in Aymaran language. They reach 14m hight. Afterwards we will stop at Andahuaylillas – beautiful colonial church called the Sistine Chapel of America. After arrivat to Cusco you will check in at a hotel and have some time to rest. In the afternoon we will explore Cusco, the city of ancestors of Incas, who speak Quechua. The city boasts beautiful historical monuments from the Colonial era.

DAY 9: Sacred valley of Incas  22.09.10
Sightseeing in Cusco and the Sacred Valley of Incas: amazing ruins of the Inca temple Coricancha – the most important aggregate of temples, wonderful cathedral from XVI century, the famous painting depicting Last Supper and the Crucifix which, according to local people, saved the cathedral during the earthquake in 1650. We will visit Plaza de Armas and have some free time in the old town of Cusco. Return to the hotel, dinner and accommodation in Cusco.

DAY 10: Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu 23.09.2010
Breakfast, transfer to the highest altitude train station in the world. We will have a trip to the most famous place on the continent the Lost City – Machu Picchu. Although known locally, it was unknown to the outside world before being brought to international attention in 1911 by the American historian. This amazing piece of art was built in the classical Inca style, with polished dry-stone walls. Its primary buildings are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows. We will visit the Sunny Observatory, picturesque terraces and the Sanctuary. Then we will walk along high cliffs falling into the Urubamba River which surrounds the massif. You will learn about an importance of the calendar stone – Intihuatana. Then we will go back to the hotel in Cusco and have a dinner.

DAY 11: My Amazon 24.09.2010
Breakfast and last moments in the capital of Incas. We will fly to the city bathed in the Amazon. Transfer from the airport to the harbor and a cruise up the river to the lodge, on the way we will have a “meeting” with Anaconda. We will check in at the lodge at Rio Momon, inflow of the Amazon. Free time, dinner and accommodation in the lodge.

DAY 12: Boras 25.09.2010

In the early morning, before sunrise, we will take you on an expedition on the river Nanay, where we can observe wild birds of the Amazon. We will come back to the lodge for breakfast and after short repose we will go to Trapiche, hidden in the jungle place, where a strong drink of sugar cane is made. After dinner we will go to a local village, where we can learn about life of local people in the Amazon wilderness.

DAY 13: Caymans and Piranhas 26.09.2010
Breakfast and an expedition up the river Amazon. You will have a chance to observe caymans and the biggest freshwater fish. Return to the lodge, dinner and accommodation.

DAY 14: Yaguas 27.09.2010
After breakfast we will organize an optional fishing expedition. We will visit Yaguas, a local village, where we have a last chance to buy souvenirs from the Amazon.

DAY 15: Yaguas, Iquitos and the city of Kings 28.09.2010
A fishing expedition early morning, breakfast afterwards. Cruise to Iquitos, visiting the city and the slums quarter “floating Belen”, the old town and the house of Eiffel, transfer to the airport and flight to Lima. Farewell to the guide and departure from Peru.

DAY 16: The end of the trip  29.09.2010
Return to the country.
